Direct air connectivity to Réunion Island restored

Direct air connectivity between Chennai and Réunion Island, an overseas Department and Region of France in the Indian Ocean, was restored on Wednesday, with private airline IndiGo beginning a tri-weekly service (Wednesday, Friday and Sunday).

An aviation source said IndiGo’s noon flight (6E1871/1872) to Saint-Denis Roland Garros airport would be operated with a 186-seat Airbus A320N, with a block time of six hours and 20 minutes (4,637 km). The service is expected to cater to Réunion’s sizeable Indian origin/Tamil diaspora, tourists, and medical and educational travel.
