Kannada superstar Kichcha Sudeep has opened up about the confusion and uncertainty around his anticipated project Billa Ranga Baasha (BRB). Directed by Anup Bhandari of RangiTaranga fame, the movie is touted to be an action fantasy drama.

Billa Ranga Baasha was announced on September 02, 2024. K Niranjan Reddy and Chaithanya Reddy, who had bankrolled the hit Telugu superhero movie Hanuman, had come on board as producers under the banner Primeshow Entertainment.

The film then went on floors on April 16, 2025. The first schedule, spanning 20 days, seems to have featured a major action sequence. The production team had mounted multiple sets for the schedule. After this update, there was a long period of silence from the film team. Several reports cited different reasons why the film was put on hold.

Sudeep has put an end to theories around the film’s future. “Hitting the floors on June 26 with BRB. It will be a continuous process of making movies. I have locked four scripts, and I am excited to start them all soon,” wrote Sudeep on X.

Sudeep’s post was a response to a Tweet from a cinema-related handle that had conveyed its frustration at the lack of updates from Sudeep’s projects. A portion from one of Sudeep’s recent interviews, in which he says his choice to play cricket leagues and spend time cooking shouldn’t be questioned, disappointed fans, who were eagerly waiting to hear his movie announcements.

“Here is something you all should know,” wrote the actor. “I was keeping myself busy with other things. It doesn’t mean I took any bit of your love or this blessed career for granted. There is nothing I love more than making a movie, telling stories and entertain.”

Speculations are rife that Sudeep is set to don the director’s hat again. Manikya (2014), the 2014 remake of the Telugu film Mirchi, was his last directorial. The actor is also set to feature in a Telugu-Kannada romantic comedy. The film will be directed by a former assistant director of popular filmmaker Sukumar.

In an interview in 2025, Sudeep had spoken about the project, “The script was organic. I am collaborating with a filmmaker who has assisted ace Telugu director Sukumar (Pushpa and Rangasthalam fame). It’s a beautiful story, and I will be shooting it simultaneously in Telugu and Kannada,” he says.

Sudeep was last seen in Mark, directed by Vijay Karthikeyaa. Released on December 25, 2025, the movie received mixed responses from fans and critics alike. The Hindu review of the movie said, “ A stylish and brave attempt, Mark still falls short as the effort of pulling off a quick film is let down by a run-of-the-mill script.”
