BEST conductor dies in accident involving four buses in Mumbai
A 52-year-old BEST conductor died following an accident involving four buses in Mumbai’s Andheri West area on Thursday (May 14, 2026), an official said.
The accident occurred near the Rajkumar bus stop on J.P. Road, below Azad Nagar Metro Station, they said.
According to the traffic police, congestion had built up on the road after a tree fell in the area. Three buses were stationed one behind the other in the traffic jam when a fourth bus crashed into the third bus, causing a four-bus pile-up, officials said.
A BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport) official said a conductor, identified as Shekar Baburao Rawte, who had stepped out to find out the reason for the congestion, got crushed between two buses.
Rawte was rushed to Cooper Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Further investigation into the incident is underway, police added.
