Man sets off security alarms at Trump golf club days after WHCD shooting; arrested
A man was taken into custody by the US Secret Service on Saturday afternoon (local time) after causing a disturbance at Trump Doral National Golf Club, according to officials, in an incident that unfolded just days after a security scare at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
The arrest took place at around 4:15 pm (local time) at a security screening area staffed by federal agents and local law enforcement. Authorities said the individual, whose identity remains unknown, became disruptive, refused to follow instructions and made physical contact with an agent before being apprehended.
According to the New York Post, the suspect set off screening alarms at the security checkpoint, leading officers to step in. Footage shared online shows the man being restrained and handcuffed while standing near the entry area.
The Secret Service confirmed that the individual was stopped at the screening stage itself. US President Donald Trump was not present at the property when the incident occurred. The Doral Police Department charged the suspect with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest without violence. He has since been transferred to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami, where he remains in custody, the NYP reported.
Michael Townsend, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Secret Service’s Miami field office, said the disruption did not affect broader security arrangements.
“At no point did this situation impact the established security posture for any upcoming visits to Trump Doral National Golf Club by Secret Service protectees,” Townsend said.
WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENTS’ DINNER SHOOTING
The arrest comes less than a week after a far more serious breach during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, where an armed suspect forced his way past a checkpoint.
The suspect was identified as Cole Allen, a 31-year-old California teacher accused of attempting to assassinate the US President and members of his cabinet.
According to investigators, he was carrying a shotgun, knives and other weapons when he crossed security barriers at the venue. He now faces multiple federal charges, including attempting to assassinate Trump, transporting weapons across state lines with intent to commit a felony, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.
